Our featured speaker is Jim Donovan, a long-time AFP member, author and expert on major gift fundraising.  In fact, Jim wrote a best selling book with the same title.  You'll want to take notes on these valuable lessons:

  • How to use the Internet to find your prospect's interests.
  • How to make sure email, voice mail, Twitter and Facebook are not "major" obstacles to your major gift fund raising program.
  • How to rate and evaluate prospects.
  • When and how to use desk time vs. face time.
  • Invitation vs. Solicitation:  Learn how to invite prospects to give.
  • How to conduct a successful board campaign with proportionate giving and 100% participation.

About our Speaker

James A. (Jim) Donovan, President/CEO of Donovan Management, Inc. (DMI) has spent his entire professional life in philanthropy, beginning with a

staff position at the United Way.

 

A member of AFP since 1975, Jim is a founding member, past President and current Board member of the Central Florida (CF) Chapter of AFP.  He has spoken to over 100 AFP Chapters nationwide and presented at several AFP International Education Conferences.

Jim is a graduate of Wadhams Hall Seminary College (New York).  He has held senior level staff positions with the United Negro College Fund, Tusculum College in Tennessee, East Tennessee State University, University of Central Florida and Clemson University. He has guided over one billion dollars in fund raising programs and campaigns.

 

Jim's the author of 2 books. The best selling Take The Fear Out of Asking For Major Gifts was originally published in 1993. A fifth printing will be released later this year. He also wrote 50 Ways To Motivate Your Board, and his third book, Best Practices in Fund Raising is underway.
